Healthcare Assistant Course - Part 1 (110 h) Level 4 EQF
- Safe environment (accident prevention and emergency protocol), occupational safety and health, occupational risks and food safety
- Handling of patients
- Personal and occupational hygiene
- Pain
- Sleep (concept of sleep, healthy, undisturbed sleep, measures to promote sleep, bed care and management as a vital space, technical requirements, necessary equipment and material)
- Bed making (unoccupied beds, beds with bedridden patients, types of procedures)
- Personal hygiene (concept, objective, planning of the necessary assistance, action measures)
- Prophylactic measures to prevent affections of the skin and appendages, and mucosal complications
- Clothing (concept, function, appropriate garments for each season of the year, behavioural patterns, abandonment situation, care needs)
- Age-related changes (physical, psychological, social and family-related changes)
- Dependent patient‘s motivation and emotions
- Attitudes (concept, components, functions, meaning and importance in life and behaviour, self-concept)
- Phases of death (e. g. Kübler-Ross model)
- Needs of terminally ill patients, care-related tasks during each phase
- Indicators of an imminent death, clinical death, biological death, timing of death, measures to be taken post-mortem
- Grief, support to families, coping strategies
- Ethical dilemma on euthanasia
Healthcare Assistant Course - Part 2 (280 h) Level 4 EQF
- Fundamentals of the communication process and interaction with the elderly by following a series of principles necessary to deal with patients presenting physical impairments, suffering from dementia, mental disorders or intellectual disabilities
- Fundamentals of dementia, mental disorders and intellectual disabilities together with other organic diseases, such as diabetes, degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system and possible treatments
- Fundamentals of care and the documentation necessary for care provision together with hygiene rules regarding the provision of assistance activities to assess the mutual dependence between care and assistance
- First aid course, emergency protocol
- Acquisition of further knowledge, methods and techniques to proficiently manage communication and social interaction with elderly dependent patients
- Domestic chores and nutrition placing great emphasis on diets and food intolerance
- Leisure and entertainment activities for patients with physical impairments and/or suffering from dementia
- Physical activity for patients with physical impairments and/or dementia, mental disorders or intellectual disabilities
- Communication and cooperation with the parties involved, e.g. healthcare assistants, families and volunteers
Intellectual Output (IO2)
Language Courses (300 h) Level A2
English Language course specific to the VET needs in healthcare, leading participants to reach A1-A2 level in line with the CEFRL. The course is designed in line with the communicative approach with a view to develop basic linguistic (lexical, gramatical and semantic) competences, sociolinguistic competences and communicative competences of learners and their application in the healthcare environment. In fact each learning module is based and designed according to a thematic area relevant to healthcare provision, and containing elements relevant to the main theme being addressed, structured as follows:
- Grammar
- Vocabulary
- Communicative situations
- Language in action
Each of these sections will also contain:
- interactive audio and video lessons: lecturers will present the content in a dynamic and engaging way for learners;
- interactive self-assessment (quizzes): learners will be able to track and monitor their progress, be witness to their strengths and weaknesses and do their best to make their learning curve successful.
